Critical Illness Cover

Our Life Insurance offer gives you the option to add Critical Illness Cover as an additional product. Critical Illness Cover pays out when you’re diagnosed with one of our covered Critical Illnesses; you can find these listed in more detail in the Policy Terms and Conditions, but a short summary list is below.

Critical Illness

Heart Issues:

    • Aorta graft surgery – for disease or trauma
    • Coronary artery by-pass grafts – with surgery
    • Heart attack
    • Heart valve replacement or repair – with surgery

    Head, Facial or Neurological Issues:

          • Alzheimer’s disease – resulting in permanent symptoms
          • Benign brain tumour – resulting in permanent symptoms
          • Blindness – permanent and irreversible
          • Deafness – permanent and irreversible
          • Loss of speech – permanent and irreversible
          • Stroke
          • Traumatic Brain injury

    Paralysis, lack of movement or loss of limbs:

          • Loss of hands or feet – permanent physical severance
          • Motor neurone disease – resulting in permanent symptoms
          • Multiple sclerosis – with current symptoms
          • Paralysis of limbs – total and irreversible
          • Parkinson’s disease – resulting in permanent symptoms
          • Cancer – excluding less advanced cases
          • Coma with associated permanent symptoms
          • HIV infection – caught in the UK from a blood transfusion, a physical assault or at work in an eligible occupation*
          • Kidney failure – requiring permanent dialysis
          • Major organ transplant
          • Third degree burns – covering either 20% of the surface area of the face or body

    Child Critical Illness

    The illnesses included in Child Critical Illness are inclusive of the illnesses mentioned above. We’ll pay out the lesser of 25% of the adult Critical Illness sum assured or £25,000 if your child or children are diagnosed with an eligible Critical Illness.

    We will pay out once per child, but your life insurance policy and adult Critical Illness will continue after the pay-out.

    *The eligible occupations for HIV caught at work are:

          • The emergency services – ambulance, fire, police;
          • The medical profession – administrators, cleaners, dentists, doctors, nurses, porters;
          • The armed forces
