How can I stay hydrated this summer?
The amount of water we should drink varies from person to person depending on their individual needs and lifestyle. As a general principle the experts recommend that the average adult should drink between 1.8 and 2 litres of water per day.
Why do why do we need to drink this much water?
Our ability to carry out some of the smallest tasks such as driving and general concentration can be affected by mild dehydration so it’s important that we do everything we can to avoid this.

Our quality of life can be affected if we lose over 2% of our water, this can lead to constipation, migraines, insomnia and other health issues.

It’s important for us to understand the signs of hydration as it’s not always a case of feeling thirsty. There are a few that you should look out for, such as: suffering with drowsiness and headaches, noticing dry skin, eyes and lips, a lack of concentration levels and feeling more irritable.
What can I do to avoid being dehydrated?
There are many ways we can stay hydrated throughout our daily routines and these simple steps can help reduce the risk of health implications due to dehydration.
1. Carry a water bottle with you and keep refiling it
2. Aim to drink 6-8 glasses of water each day
3. Drink a glass of water with every meal
4. Replace coffee, tea and fizzy drinks with water
5. If you don’t like drinking water, you can make it more interest by adding diluted fruit juice or adding a slice of lemon or lime.
