Rain, wind, snow and ice. Winter weather conditions can prove to be an additional challenge whilst out on the road.
With the cold weather already setting in, and winter creeping upon us, now is the best time to ensure that your car is “winter ready”.
Here are some easy steps you can follow:
Clearing your windscreen is likely to be the first thing you’ll have to do on a winter’s morning. So after you’ve cleared the morning frost, make sure you keep your screen wash topped up, and double check that your wiper blades are in good condition.
Getting up and driving to work in the dark, returning home in the dark - a familiar daily routine for most of us in the winter months. Make sure that all your lights are working, and they’re cleaned regularly. It’s a really easy thing to do, and will mean you’ll have maximum visibility on those drives in the dark.
In order to keep your engine ticking over when the temperatures start dropping, ensure you have a 50:50 mixture of antifreeze and water in your coolant system. It only costs a few pounds to buy and will keep your car running smoothly.
Before winter fully kicks in, it’s also often worth getting your car serviced by a local garage for peace of mind, and to hopefully prevent any unnecessary breakdowns.
Now is also a good time to check that you have all the necessary cover in place.
- Breakdown. At Budget Insurance we’ve partnered up with the RAC. There’s 5 different levels of cover available, enabling you to choose the perfect fit for you.
If your car were to breakdown, it’s likely to be less comfortable than in the warmer months, so ensuring you have a blanket or warm clothes in the car will make your wait for assistance that little bit more comfortable.
Some other useful things to stock in the car are: a torch, hi-vis vest, scraper, de-icer, water & some emergency snacks.
With less favourable weather conditions it is even more important that your tyres are in good condition. It is recommended that in winter, tyres have a minimum 3mm tread and are kept well inflated.
Did you know that at Budget Insurance we can also provide additional Tyre Protection Cover and/or Tyre and Alloy Insurance giving you assistance with any repair related costs & protection from any accidental or malicious tyre damage.
