When looking at cars, most of us consider the overall costs involved with driving and there’s always that worrying question of ‘how much is it going to cost me on my insurance?’ Well usually how it works is the panel of insurers will consider different factors in regards to the car. For example they may look at the value of the car, the costs of parts if they ever need replacing and sometimes even the car security, for example car alarms, cameras and other security devices. Have a look at some of the cheapest cars on the market to insure for first time drivers.
1. Ford KA
The Ford KA was released in 1996, and has had two generations, the 2nd released in 2009 which is an updated model and spec. The new shape comes in either a 1.2 or a 1.3 litre engine and falls under insurance group 2 or 3. This makes it one of the cheapest cars to insure and a great option to look at for young drivers who are looking for their first car. The KA is the smallest Ford model and is a good run around for anyone who is looking for this sort of vehicle.
2. Toyota Yaris
With a 5* safety rating, the Toyota Yaris is another car which you can insure without having to break the bank. The Yaris models come in either a 3 or 5 door hatchback. It’s also available in petrol and diesel, with an engine capacity ranging from 1.0 to 1.8 litres. Some models also come in a hybrid model which makes it eco-friendly too! This car is all round good first car, as it’s reliable and has low running costs
3. Vauxhall Corsa
The Corsa has become one of the most popular cars for young drivers, due to its appearance, performance and the biggest factor… the price to insure. Vauxhall have released many different specifications and model of the Corsa, and the engine ranges between 1.0 and 1.6 litres. Similar to many new cars, the newer shape Corsa’s come with their own ecoflex engine, which is economically friendly, and this often helps to decrease your insurance.
4. Hyundai i10
Hyundai have released their second generation i10 and is probably a good option if you’re looking for a city run-around. The car comes in either a 1 or 1.2 litre engine and is ideal for first time drivers who are want cheaper insurance. The i10 is in a low car insurance group so it’ll probably save you a few pennies when it comes to insuring it.
5. Volkswagen Up!
From one city car to another, the VW Up! This car has been praised for its comfortable drive and quality interior, but is still falling under the low insurance premium category and therefore makes a good first car. The Up! Comes in a 1.0 litre engine and you can choose between the different specs that are available.
