Home insurance customers in Peterborough have been given an insight into which areas of the town are most likely to experience a burglary, which could potentially necessitate a costly home insurance claim.
This week, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph has published crime figures under the Freedom of Information Act that reveal there have been 134 burglaries in the town last month, up from 114 cases 12 months earlier.
And it also appears that some locales are more popular among criminals than others, home insurance customers may be concerned to learn.
Lincoln Road and Crabtree in nearby Paston top the list of crime hotspots - the statistics confirm that both have experienced more than 60 theft incidents between April 2004 and December 2006.
Meanwhile, Gladstone Road, Howland, Hinchcliffe and Stagsden have also emerged as popular locations for burglars to strike.
Kevin English, Stagsden resident, has admitted that he is unsurprised by news that his area is one of the hotspots.
"I am not surprised there are so many burglaries around here," he said.
"I have seen people running along the street with things that appear to have been stolen.
"My little girl was just devastated when she realised the bike had been taken. You have to bolt absolutely everything up around here."
Homeowners who live in areas with a high crime risk may find that they struggle to locate a cheap home insurance deal.
This is because home insurance companies typically take into account factors such as the previous history of the neighbourhood before giving a tailored home insurance quote.
