Home insurance customers in the north-west of England may be interested to hear that burglary levels reportedly fell last week as a result of a police initiative.
Over the past six days, Rochdale's police officers have been working on Operation Blackfly, which was designed to reduce instances of anti-social behaviour and criminality in the region, reports the Rochdale Observer.
And the article claims that the proportion of burglaries fell by 80 per cent during the crackdown, compared to the preceding six-day period.
Meanwhile, reports of criminal damage fell by 33 per cent in the area.
If these trends continue into the long term, it may be that fewer home insurance customers in Rochdale are forced to make a claim on their policy and sacrifice their home insurance no-claims discounts.
Now, local police superintendent Bryan Lawton has indicated that he hopes the operation will prove to have a long-lasting effect upon crime figures.
"By carrying out operations like this on a regular basis we can really get to grips with crime, which blights the lives of so many residents on housing estates," he said.
"We will also continue to use support officers to maintain a highly visible police presence on the estate, which will help combat problems like burglary."
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Peterborough has seen an increase in property crime levels over the past year.
According to data obtained by the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, there were 134 burglary reports made to the police in May 2007, as opposed to 114 incidents a year earlier.
