Norfolk police have launched a new initiative to address the growing number of burglaries in the area, home insurance customers may be interested to know.
Operation Breathe has been set up after burglaries in the central area of the county increased by 11.1 per cent between April and July this year, compared to the same period in 2006, reports the Norwich Evening News.
Additional officers have been drafted into the worst-affected areas as part of the overall effort to crack down on burglaries.
A spokesperson for the constabulary told the newspaper that the operation was launched to tackle a number of crimes affecting local communities, including burglary, criminal damage, anti-social behaviour and thefts from vehicles.
"By drawing on appropriate resources from across the county we can take swift and robust action to maximise our impact on crime peaks that are affecting our communities," she stated.
The force intends to pursue a "problem-solving approach" to policing by identifying problems and working with its partners to ensure resources are used "intelligently", she added.
Home insurance customers we recently offered a new liquid forensic coding system to help recover their possessions in the event of them being stolen, the Gazette reports.
The SmartWater kits, which ensure that a unique code remains on an item and can only be seen under a UV light, were distributed by police in Basingstoke.
Officers told the newspaper that the system has already proven successful in other areas of the country, helping to reduce the number of burglaries.
