Holders of van insurance policies considering a new model this Christmas may want to look at details of Volkswagen's Caddy with its award-winning direct shift gearbox (DSG).
Last week, the vehicle was awarded the accolade of Editor's Choice at the What Van? magazine awards, after last year scooping the Technology Award at the same event.
The gearbox was the deciding factor in both awards, with the magazine's editor Neil McIntee stating that no other vehicle manufacturers had come up with such a "novel" or effective solution as that used in the Caddy.
Commenting on the win, Gemma Cox, product manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: "The What Van? awards are a great testament to Volkswagen's advanced and efficient technology in the Caddy DSG and the quality Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles provide."
The DSG allows motorists to change gears faster than they would be able to with a conventional gearbox through the use of twin clutch technology.
"It's so impressive that it's a worthy winner of the What Van? Editor's Choice Award for 2007," Mr McIntree said of the gearbox.
Recently, the model has also scooped awards at ceremonies held by Van Fleet World and Professional Van & Light Truck magazines, where it was named Best Small Van by both publications.
Among the vehicle's useful features are a payload of 724kg and a maximum trailer weight of 1,425kg, in addition to a volume of 3.2 cubic metres for bulky loads.
