Families looking online for budget MPVs
01 March 2010
Budget-conscious car and
van insurance policyholders may be increasingly looking to purchase a model online to save money.
A report by internet-based vehicle retailer Carsite.co.uk has highlighted that increasing numbers of its customers are looking for a cheap multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that is most cost-effective to buy online rather than at a dealership.
"The current economic climate continues to put a strain on the budgets of many families, so it's hardly surprising the internet is now increasingly populated with parent drivers after the best value transportation they can achieve," commented Alistair Jeff of Carsite.co.uk.
According to the website, online retailers can provide savings of up to 20 per cent less that suggested industry prices.
It cites a 2007 Renault Scenic as being available on the internet for £5,117, which is around 24 per cent less than the recommended price, equating to a saving of £1,600.
Meanwhile, a Vauxhall Meriva from the same year can be found for £5,016, marking a saving of £934 on high street prices.
In January, the firm reported that vehicle buyers were increasingly turning to the internet to make purchases as a result of the wintry weather.
At one point during the month the website reported an increase in sales of 112 per cent compared with average figures from the previous two months. Meanwhile, some areas of the UK were reporting snowfall of up to 40 centimetres, potentially forcing many Brits to stay indoors.
