Green concerns top motoring resolutions list
18 February 2010
Almost half of the UK's motorists have made motoring-related new year's resolutions, a study has shown.
According to a survey by Exchange and Mart, 47 per cent of drivers are hoping to modify their motoring habits this year, with environmental concerns being one of the top incentives to do so.
Car and
van insurance policyholders may be among the 11 per cent of drivers who said they plan to trade in their vehicle for something greener, while 14 per cent pledged to lower their mileage.
Debra Healy, the firm's digital director, commented: "New year is a great time to make some positive changes to the way you drive and your motoring decisions, such as the type of car and how often you drive it."
She went on to say that of the 47 per cent of drivers who made motoring resolutions, 37 per cent have already kept to their pledge, but 38 per cent have not yet made a start and feel their pledge will never make it off the ground.
"Making the change for good is the challenge," Ms Healy concluded.
Other resolutions included being more patient with other motorists and making more of an effort to stick to the speed limit, as well as booking vehicles in for a service more frequently, which could help motorists avoid
car insurance claims.
Last month, the firm urged motorists not to skimp on servicing because of the credit crunch, as regular maintenance can save drivers money in the long term and boost a vehicle's value at selling.
