Mercedes-Benz launches winter driving course to hone motorists' skills

A winter driving course could be the perfect Valentine's present for safety-conscious
car insurance policyholders.
Mercedes-Benz has announced a new course that helps motorists hone their skills for harsh weather conditions as the UK has recently seen.
As part of the initiative, instructors will teach motorists how to deal with issues from cornering to pulling out onto an icy road with the potential risks of oncoming traffic, all on wet grip, low friction road surfaces.
The firm suggests the skills could help motorists save money on repair bills and car or
van insurance premiums should anything happen that is avoidable.
Dermot Kelly, managing director Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars, commented: "The advanced low grip surfaces of the wet skid circle and straight mean that any driver can experience - in safety - how a car reacts on the limit in icy conditions and most importantly how to deal with a problem should one arise out on the road."
The course may also help drivers overcome fears they have previously accrued during former road experiences.
"To experience a car spinning through 360 degrees is a daunting prospect, so to do so on the safe and controlled purpose-built circuits at Mercedes-Benz World offers an invaluable lesson for everyone, whatever their level of experience," Mr Kelly added.
The one-hour course is being held in Surrey at a price of £100.
Winter conditions as experienced by the country recently have prompted firms such as Nurburgmotorsport to call for motorists to fit their vehicles with winter driving tyres to enhance safety.
