Green car website names BMW greenest manufacturer

Drivers with a green conscience might want to consider BMW when they make their next model purchase after the manufacturer was named the greenest of the year.
Website Green-Car-Guide.com has placed the brand top of the list for environmentally-responsible manufacturers, marking the firm's second win in three years.
Founder and managing editor of Green-Car-Guide.com Paul Clarke commented: "In keeping with Green-Car-Guide's core philosophy, the focus of our award is on best-in-class low emission cars, but the cars should also be great to drive, so the BMW Group offers an ideal range of vehicles to meet the criteria of the award."
The award was given after performance in seven areas was assessed.
Among the sections firms were examined in was sustainability, making green models desirable, greening the whole vehicle range and improving performance as well as economy.
Corporate Operations Manager at BMW Group UK Stephen Chater said the award acknowledges the brand's advances in the sector, adding that it is currently focusing on reducing costs for business drivers and company car users.
"We won a plethora of green awards in 2009 and hope to continue this trend with the launch in 2010 of innovative products such as the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon and its 109g/km CO2 emissions figure," he went on to say.
Last month, BMW announced that its new ActiveE concept, based on the 1 Series Coupe, provides a taste of emission-free driving while still providing motorists with driving pleasure.
