'Drivers overwhelmed by vast array of vehicles'
11 January 2010
Car and
van insurance policyholders may be among the motorists overwhelmed by the number of new models to choose from.
Findings by valuation specialist Glass's have highlighted that more than a quarter of consumers are baffled by the vast choice of vehicles on offer. Some 26 per cent of respondents added that they are confused by the array.
Additionally, more than half of drivers said they were unable to test drive the vehicle of their choice upon visiting a showroom, with just 27 per cent of motorists being offered an alternative to suit their needs.
The firm commented that 70 new model ranges were launched last year, adding to the 58 launches that took place in 2008.
"So-called crossovers and a growing number of cars with alternative powertrains – such as hybrid petrol-electric vehicles – have changed the face of the market," stated Jason King, head of market intelligence at Glass's.
"Not surprisingly, some consumers struggle when it comes to selecting the right car for their needs."
With a further 40 models to be launched this year,
car insurance policyholders could find choosing their next model even more perplexing.
New crossover models are set to provide customers with greater choice, appealing to those looking for the best of both worlds in a car.
Among the vehicles set to enter the market this year is the Nissan Juke crossover vehicle, which will be unveiled in February and officially launched throughout Europe in autumn.
