Women drivers among bump and run motorists?
05 January 2010
Female motorists may be among the 63 per cent of motorists who would drive away after bumping someone else's car.
A poll by What Car? has highlighted that just 37 per cent of drivers would confess to having pranged another vehicle, with the rest potentially too worried about to make a
women's car insurance claim.
Some 45 per cent of people said they would think about confessing, depending on the level of damage caused, while 18 per cent admitted they would speed away quickly.
Steve Fowler, editor of What Car?, described the results as shocking.
He commented that while some repair jobs can be costly, there are now advanced techniques that can cover scrapes for a small sum.
"Either way, it's a criminal offence not to stop and leave your details at the scene of an accident and you could end up with points on your licence, a large fine or a maximum penalty of six months in prison," Mr Fowler warned.
In order to avoid such circumstances and potential
car insurance claims, the publication has compiled a list of safe parking tips.
The guidelines include leaving vehicles in well lit areas and park in areas where there are more empty spaces rather than opting for a narrow spot nearest to the shops.
What Car? also advises drivers to look over their shoulder when parking up rather than relying on sensors and keep a disposable camera somewhere safe to take pictures of any damage.
It recently emerged that motorists may be given a £15 surcharge on top of parking tickets to provide help for victims of domestic violence.
