7 years of success for Ford Transit Connect van

Ford's Transit Connect vehicle could be set to enhance its appeal to van insurance policyholders with another award win.

The model scooped the Light Van of the Year accolade at the recent Fleet Car and Vans Awards, held by fleet operators Acfo, for the seventh consecutive year.

In order to establish rankings, the organisation polled its members for their views, taking into consideration factors including running costs, dealer efficiency and driver options.

This year saw a change to online voting from the usual postal ballot, which helped increase voter numbers by 20 per cent.

Julie Jenner, chairwoman of Acfo, stated: "The awards continue to represent the true face of fleet operations, rather than showroom appeal."

She added that the poll is useful in providing feedback for vehicle makers.

Commenting on the accolade won by the Ford offering, Ford of Britain's fleet director Kevin Griffin said that the company was honoured to have received the award for seven years in a row.

"It is recognition of Ford's commercial vehicle success and why we remain the choice of thousands of British businesses," he added.

In related news, the model recently ranked third out of thousands of vehicles in terms of van reliability in an annual survey by Fleet News magazine.

The poll saw motorists - potentially including van and car insurance policyholders - place Ford as the number one van manufacturer for dependability, with the regular Transit van taking first place for reliability of single models.
