Public voice phone concerns
24 November 2009
The majority of respondents to a new survey are in support of tougher action against motorists who use their mobile phones while driving, the Association of British Insurers has revealed.
A total of 2,000 motorists were surveyed by YouGov for the ABI, and some 72 per cent of respondents said that they believe drivers using mobile phones are the most likely to cause an accident.
The survey suggested also that motorists believe insurers should be able to check licences for relevant convictions when offering a car insurance quote.
Director of general insurance and health at the ABI Nick Starling said: "Honest motorists are fed up with drivers who lie and cheat to try to obtain cheaper insurance."
He added that the
car insurance industry relies on people being honest in order to provide cover, and that those who conceal their motoring offences push up the cost of
car insurance for everyone on the roads.
Earlier this year, the ABI confirmed new arrangements meant people who are injured in accidents can have access to compensation more quickly.
