New BMW 5 series revealed
24 November 2009
The latest incarnation of the BMW 5 series has been revealed by the German auto maker.
The new vehicle, the sixth generation of the model, features a range of new developments, including an eight-speed automatic gear box and auto start-stop engine technology.
As well as these new features, BMW claims the car has an "almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution" and balanced proportions.
It also has a longer wheelbase than the previous version of the model and has a 520-litre boot.
Drivers who do choose to invest in a new motor should remember to update their
car insurance policy so that their new vehicle is fully covered.
While the eight-speed automatic gearbox comes as standard on the top model, it is available in all versions of the car. Drivers who prefer a manual gearbox have a newly refined six-speed transmission available, BMW says, adding that features such as a tool suggesting when to change gear can help to boost efficiency.
Earlier this month, BMW was confirmed as the official transport provider for the London 2012 Olympic Games. A range of Minis will be provided to offer transport around the Olympic site. As part of the deal, BMW has also confirmed it will provide bicycles for use by athletes and staff around the Olympic village.
