Kids 'pick up bad driving habits'
23 November 2009
Children can and do easily pick up bad driving habits from their parents, it has been claimed.
According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists, young motorists regularly pick up habits from their parents and can develop their own bad driving style as a result.
But young motorists looking for a cheaper
car insurance quote may do well to avoid picking up such habits as part of an effort to develop as a safe driver.
Chief examiner of the Institute of Advanced Motorists Peter Rodger said: "Doing 40 in a 30 zone, using abusive language towards other drivers and getting too close to the car in front are all bad habits children can pick up from parents or other family members at an early age, and can stay with them for life."
Mr Rodger added that it is young adults who are most vulnerable while out on the road and it is this group that should take care not to adopt the bad habits of their parents as they could prove to be more dangerous.
Nonetheless, head of road safety at the AA Andrew Howard recently said that it is attitude rather than age that is the main factor behind dangerous driving on the UK's roads.
