If proof cannot be provided within 4 weeks from the commencement date of the car insurance policy, the NCD entitlement will be reduced to zero years.
- A letter will be sent out as a reminder that we have not yet received proof of NCD entitlement.
This will be followed by a letter warning either:
- That the premium will increase if we do not receive proof of NCD
- In some cases the letter will state that the insurer requires a minimum NCD, and that the car insurance policy will be cancelled if proof is not received.
Finally a letter will be sent advising of either:
- The cancellation of the car insurance policy (It is a legal requirement that all certificates of motor insurance that we have issued and that are still current, must be returned to us)
- The reduction in NCD, the increase in premium and the date the change will apply from. We will then charge you for the additional premium due from the start of the car insurance policy.
If customers have an outstanding claim in progress at the previous insurer, that insurer may withhold the proof entitlement until the settlement of the claim. Proof will also be withheld if there is money outstanding on the car insurance policy.
If NCD proof is provided after we have increased the premium, we will re-instate the NCD and adjust the premium accordingly. If over-payment has taken place, a refund will be given.
