What are green cards?

Green Cards are no longer required for travel within the European Union. Your Certificate of Motor Insurance is enough proof of car insurance within the EU

  • The Green Card is a certificate, easily recognised by foreign authorities, proving that you have the legal minimum car insurance cover required to travel in foreign countries. The Green Card is issued for your convenience to avoid language problems with foreign authorities
  • Some customers may insist on having a Green Card for travel to EU countries, even though they no longer need it for travel. In these cases, we will issue them with one and an amendment fee will be charged
  • A Green Card is valid for a maximum of 60 days. A customer spending significant periods of time abroad will have altered the risk attached to the vehicle and thus the insurer may reassess the offer of car insurance.
